THe griot counter

Restaurant Graphics

Each plate tells its own story. The Griot Counter brings together the storytelling tradition of West African Griots and Japanese Omakase. The menu is organized like a story—appetizers reflecting beginnings, nigiri as rising action, cooked dishes as climax, and dessert as resolution. Soul food’s emphasis on comfort, memory, and communal spirit pairs seamlessly with Omakase’s precision and intention. West African textile patterns are reimagined through a minimalist Japanese lens—subtle, geometric, and intentional. In addition, the halftone photo manipulation adds memory and the art of its handcrafted tasting course. Fusing both cultures into a new and reimagined experience, The Griot Counter brings people together, offering solace and a sense of community.
